Sexual health

There are many reasons why a sexual health screen may be requested, many people like the reassurance and peace of mind, for others starting a new relationship has made them more aware of the importance of sexual health.

At the Harrow Health Care Centre we offer a range of confidential, discreet and professional sexual health screenings. These are undertaken by your choice of either a male or female doctor. The samples are then processed by a state of the art laboratory.

All patients are booked for a half hour appointment with a doctor during which a sexual history is taken and your concerns discussed, you will then be examined and we will discuss with you which tests we feel are most appropriate.

I have a new sexual partner can I have a sexual health check?

We use up to three different types of sample to perform the screening process depending on which package is requested.

  • Blood sample for HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis B & C
  • Urine Sample for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas and Mycoplasma
  • Swabs for bacterial infection.

These have been chosen to cause you the least discomfort whilst ensuring the tests are accurate.

We also offer a selection of test packages, which can have extra tests added to depending upon your concerns and clinical symptoms. For details of these packages click here.

Can I have a chlamydia screen?

Yes. Chlamydia screening is easily available on a urine sample for both men and women. No examination is required and it can be performed without seeing a doctor.

I am worried, can I have an HIV test?

An HIV blood test is often requested by the worried well. If you are considering having an HIV blood test you will need to book a consultation with one of our doctors. This is always required, as the implications of a positive test must be appreciated before we proceed with any testing.

Cervarix & Gardasil Vaccines to Protect Against Cervical Cancer:

The Harrow Health Care Centre is pleased to offer both vaccines to protect against cervical cancer. The new vaccines provide 100% protection against the two main strains of HPV (human papilloma virus) which cause 70-80% of all cervical cancers. Gardasil also protects against the other strains of HPV which cause ano-genital warts.

We offer a series of Sexual Health Screening pages. For further information click here.
